first_imgPNG came from a goal down to make history, being the first PNG football team to win on Solomon Islands soil for the first time.It was Solomon Islands who broke the deadlock a minute from kick off by Micah Lea’alafa.PNG team captain, Raymond Gunemba with the help of his boys hit back with the equalizer just before the half hour mark to make it even.Gunemba picked up a failed clearance attempt by Solomon Islands goal keeper, Philip Mango and fired it back in for the equalizer.The equalizer was a boost for the visitors as they continued to mount pressure on the Solomon Islands defense line up.The winning goal came from a penalty later in the second half from a hand ball by defender Bata Furai.PNG’s Michael Foster made no mistake to find the back of the net to make it two.PNG Coach, Flemming Serritslev told LOOP PNG, credit goes to his players for their top performance.“We played well this time, especially because our midfield was able to keep the ball unlike the first match.“We are a bit more focused than the first game and we found our way of play.“I would like to thank my colleague Toata for the very good matches,” he said.He also thanked SIFF for the opportunity for the friendly matches which he stressed is very important for their preparations for the Nations Cup.PNG Captain Raymond Gunemba said Solomon Islands have skillful players but they stuck to their game plan and maintained a strong play.He also praised the crowd for their support and good behavior.Coach, Moses Toata said PNG deserved to win the match.“First of all I would like to thank PNG for these friendly matches.“For me, PNG deserved to win this match because they were so determined; they came out fighting for everything on the pitch.“This is the type of determination I want my players to have to win matches,” he said.A number of spectators acknowledged the PNG side as being fit, strong and full of determination, giving no chances to the local side.The Oceania Nations cup is set for May in Port Moresby.last_img
