The Argonauts won in five innings via the run rule, and the team improved to 26-19 overall and 15-11 in GSC play with the win. UWA fell to 24-21, 11-14 with the loss.“We had two really close games last night, having to come from behind to win both games,” said UWF head coach Tami Cyr. “Today we really came out swinging, finishing with 12 hits. It was a great day offensively.”Senior Taylor Bailey (Austin, Texas/Louisiana-Monroe) picked up the win in the final home start of her career, improving to 15-8 on the season. The right-hander allowed two runs, one earned, while striking out four in five innings.“Taylor struggled a bit last night, but she came back today and did a great job,” explained Cyr. “She was back in ‘Taylor form’ today.”The top of the Argonaut lineup was productive, as seniors Caroline Kaston (Niceville, Fla./Wallace CC), Danielle Sanders (Leesburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) and Hannah Dowling (Irvine, Calif./Santa Ana) each had multi-hit games. Dowling led the team with four RBIs, while Kaston had two runs and two RBIs and Sanders scored three runs.“I was looking for good pitches to hit and looking to execute,” said Dowling. “The rest of the team did their job too, so it was a great win.”The Argos scored their 10 runs in the first three innings, putting up two in the first and four each in the second and third innings. West Alabama chipped away with one run in the fourth and one in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the run rule win for UWF.UWA starting pitcher Sarah Averett (7-8) was credited with the loss after allowing six runs in 1.1 innings pitched. Reliever Alli Hall allowed the other four runs, but they were unearned. The game marked the final home contest for eight graduating Argonauts: Bailey, Dowling, Kaston, Sanders, Lauren Correia, Audrey Harner, Emily Harvey and Elizabeth Nugent.UWF will close out the regular season with a three-game series at Delta State on April 25-26.
