Annie Aaron of the organizing committee told the first in a series of press conferences leading up to Carnival at the Dominica Festival Committee’s office on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 that only 16 calypsonians will perform at the tent when it commences on Friday 17th January.“We are on this Friday at the Harlem Plaza and we have a nice line-up, it’s not too big we have a small crowd due to sponsorship”.She noted that the committee is “lacking sponsorship very bad” and encouraged patrons to “pay the money to come in and support the art form”. Aaron also urged the private sector firms to come on board and provide sponsorship which will enhance the Tent’s events. “We will still continue working even if we don’t get the support that we deserve from the private sector”.According to Mrs. Aaron, the financial constraints and lack of sponsorship has made it difficult to issue complimentary tickets to the event. “We can’t send complimentary tickets this year because of low sponsorship,” she noted and urged patrons to come and support the Tent.Although Aaron accused other calypso tents of “looting” Mas Camp calypsonians, she said they will continue to train artiste and provide them with good songs to make Dominica’s Carnival a success.“Showdown Mas camp is a camp which provides for upcoming and talented artiste, usually when they get talented and develop usually the other tents kind of loot them away because they think they are too good so they get looted”.Sixth time Calypso Monarch King Dice, Young Bull, Leona Peters, Vigilante, Pick Lock, Lady B, Triumph, Sugar S, Soul Puss, The Wave, De Bob and Sye are among the sixteen calypsonians to perform at the tent. Three members of the Showdown Calypso Tent; Peter Pros, Derose and Trendsetter recently branched out and formed a new tent named Renegades due to dissatisfaction with Mas Camp’s operations.Dominica Vibes News 67 Views   3 comments Tweetcenter_img Share Share Sharelast_img
