Verizon stepped up its efforts around 5G gaming through a deal with popular live game streaming platform Twitch to explore ways the next generation technology could be used to deliver more immersive experiences.John Nitti, Verizon’s chief media officer, said the companies will focus on “evolving the way creators and fans watch and play” with an eye toward “augmented online and in-person experiences”. The pair will also work on media and broadcast integrations for the Twitch Rivals North America series of competitions.US operators have long pointed to gaming as a key 5G use case: in 2019 AT&T partnered with e-sports company ESL and Sprint teamed with cloud gaming service Hatch.Verizon recently ramped its own activity in the space, teaming with international e-sports team Dignitas in January to launch a 5G e-sports training facility in Los Angeles to improve player performance and fan interactions. It subsequently agreed deals with e-sports company Riot Games in June and gaming organisation FaZe Clan in July.Market research company Newzoo forecast mobile games will generate revenue of $77.2 billion in 2020 and remain the fastest growing segment as the overall gaming market (which also includes PCs and consoles) grows from $159.3 billion this year to more than $200 billion by end-2023. Why don’t bus services connect better with trains?
Is public transport good value for money?
Has better air quality dropped off the agenda?
These are three of the key questions that will be addressed by a two-day conference, networking event and exhibition being staged this summer in Nottingham. With the keynote address being provided by Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, it will also include the rare chance to hear from speakers including controversial taxi company Uber, and Community Transport Association CEO Bill Freeman.Intermodal, on 21-22 June at the Nottingham Conference Centre, is expected to attract considerable attention because it covers all transport modes under one roof, and has high-quality presenters.Intermodal uses the Midlands as a backdrop for case studies on bus, tram and rail integration strategies and the implementation of the latest technologies, as well as exploring good practice from other UK cities and overseas. The first day includes presentations about wireless inductive charging and fuel cell technology, alongside a debate on ‘where next for the UK bus market’ including senior figures from Wellglade, Stagecoach, National Express, Systra, ADL and Optare. The role of community transport will also be under the spotlight, alongside a panel debate about how devolution will change transport dynamics.Uber GM Mathieu Proust will argue that Uber is “complementary, not competition,” while David Sidebottom of independent watchdog Transport Focus will set out what passengers really want.In total, there is a choice of 48 debates, case studies and presentations, delivered by 63 speakers and panel guests. The event is supported by a number of partners, including Keolis. Alistair Gordon, CEO of Keolis UK, says: “The challenges facing urban and regional transport are critical to cities’ prosperity. From our experience, a platform for this growth can only come through the development of efficient integrated networks – that is why we are delighted to support this important event and share our expertise.”Details at www.mainspring.co.uk/i-modal/

Share Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says the time has come to review Dominica’s marijuana laws. A regional committee could soon be established to dialogue with experts on the matter which is being given attention by CARICOM. The Prime Minister told a press conference on July 7, 2014 that the marijuana issue needs to be discussed on a wider scale, in light of calls for the decriminalization of the herb here. “We believe the time has come for us to look at the laws relating to marijuana, for example someone with a very small quantity of marijuana, we will send him to prison, and the question is, if a man has five grams of marijuana should this person be sent to prison for that small amount and that person would have a criminal record for the rest of his life,” Mr Skerrit said. The Prime Minister said Dominica’s conviction laws for the possession of marijuana need to be reviewed as too many young people are being convicted for small amounts of marijuana which could have a negative impact on their future. “Imagine a 19 year old being arrested for this for his rest of his life and for the rest of his life he won’t be able to advance in any significant way because of this charge”“I believe the discussion we may have in Dominica is in respect to looking at our laws in respect to convictions for the possession of marijuana and to determine whether we would not allow our people to have a very small quantity for religious and other purposes obviously,” he said. The Prime Minister added that certain conditions would have to be implemented to control the use of the herb particularly in public places. “One would have to place certain conditions on that meaning you cannot smoke in public, you cannot be on a bus and pull it out, you cannot be on the block and smoking, it has to be in the privacy of your home”. Mr Skerrit added that the issue of who cultivates the herb for purchase is not a simple decision that one has to take. “It’s a number of things one has to consider in coming to that realization so this is why we believe that the setting up of a commission and having experts to look at this matter and to consult the various stakeholders in the region and to come back with us with one recommendation as to how do we go about addressing this issue,” he said. Prime Minister Skerrit said work is in progress and citizens will have the opportunity to share their views on this matter. However, he stated that one must be very careful about the “complete freeing up” of the herb as there could be serious implications. “I do not agree that we should remove our legal restrictions on this completely and I do not think that I would like to use this as an economic measure and some people have spoken about how much money we can make from this but we also have to measure the impact on the minds and the body of our people so I would not use these things for economic reasons,” he said.Dominica Vibes News Tweet LocalNews PM Skerrit wants review of marijuana laws by: – July 8, 2014 Share Sharing is caring! I’ve been a fan of Google Docs and Slides for several years. I love being able to access and update my files from whatever device I choose, without being tied down to a desktop application. And since I use a lot of Google applications for my work, it made sense for me to move away from desktop productivity applications. But there’s been one thing I haven’t been able to do in Google Docs and Slides: add images to my files on my mobile devices. Until today. I was thrilled when I read Google’s announcement that they’ve updated the Google Docs and Slides mobile applications to allow you to add images to Docs and Slides directly from your phone or tablet. You can add a photo from your camera roll or snap a photo and instantly add it to your document or presentation. To crop an image, you double tap the image, and drag the black markers until the image is cropped the way you want.An added benefit to the updated applications: no connection required. The features in the updated Docs and Slides mobile applications are available even when you’re offline. Download the new mobile apps from Google Play or the App Store (Docs and Slides).Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Like this:Like Loading…RelatedMay 26, 2013: Weekly Roundup of Web Design and Development ResourcesWelcome to the Memorial Day version of the weekly web design and development roundup. The lounge in the Harmony cabin. Photo: Airbus. All that’s missing is a James Bond supervillain and a white cat — Airbus already has in place a holographic globe that can be used to telegraph a dastardly plan to the British superspy before seeing it thwarted at the 11th hour.Welcome to Airbus Corporate Jet’s new Harmony cabin, a swirling concept that could fit easily into the world of arch-villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld and his vodka Martini-loving nemesis. This is not a cabin designed for the hoi polloi, but for those with the significant wherewithal to allow them to leave behind the tighter confines of traditional business jets for the luxury of a widebody.Originally designed for ACJ330neo family, it can also be used on other widebodies such as the ACJ350 XWB.Neither aircraft is cheap — the 2018 list price for an A330-900neo passenger version is $296.4 million — but what you get is space and range.Read: Airbus and Zodiac to develop sleeper cargo berths.Airbus puts the range of the 58.82m-long plane, which has new fuel-efficient engines and aerodynamic tweaks such as sharklets, at 17,400km with a passenger load of 25.The company says this means the aircraft can fly “nonstop to the world”The manufacturer’s new concept adds some 007 pizzazz with concentric circles designed to emulate the ripples in a pond. It says this and widebody benefits such as space, comfort and quietness produce “a consistently harmonious customer experience”.“Harmony is a timeless and elegant design concept because we dare to break the conventions that are traditionally imposed on us as cabin designers,’’ says ACJ head of creative design Sylvain Mariat. “Our creativity needs to be unique to fit the needs of our customers, as befits a host receiving their guests in their ‘world above the world’.’’The holographic globe shows the aircraft’s position as passengers enter, with a master bedroom, office and bathroom to the left. The holographic globe. The spacious lounge has seating grouped at round tables designed to encourage social interaction with a conference table at the back.Behind that are four VIP suites, offices which convert into a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and shower.Seating for support staff and a galley make up the rear of the cabin, which can be adapted to serve both private and government customers. The company has more than 190 corporate jets in service on every continent, including Antarctica, but it is not the only manufacturer offering bigger business jets.Rival Boeing Business Jets announced this week it had so far won four new orders this year after selling 16 jets in 2017.Boeing said two of the new orders this year are for the single-aisle BBJ MAX, adding to a backlog of 19 aircraft.Based on the new 737 MAX passenger plane, the BBJ MAX delivers 14 percent better fuel efficiency thanks to advanced engines and improved aerodynamics. The aircraft is capable of flying 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) and features a lower cabin altitude, bespoke interiors and 787-style flight deck displays.
451 Research predicts that Cloud Computing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) will grow from $4.475 billion in 2013 to $10.23 billion in 2016, and that Platform as a Service (PaaS) will grow from $2.23 billion in 2013 to $5.24 billion in 2016. Michelle Bailey, VP of Digital Infrastructure at the 451 Group, said that “We remain very bullish about the [cloud computing] market. You’re going to start to see that cloud and hosting is going to be a bigger part of the IT portfolio going forward as we move into this next era. The expectations on all of us are going to climb. IT buyers will have higher expectations, IT suppliers expect higher levels of service.”451 Research urges CIOs to develop a ‘digital enterprise playbook’ to help them map a strategy for reinventing their data infrastructure. Tony Bishop, Chief Strategy Officer for the 451 Group, said that “digital transformation is breaking down the barriers to sustainable global prosperity by shifting power towards the individual. This revolution will transform how enterprises create and deliver value. Digital enterprises will pursue and build dynamic infrastructure capabilities to innovate and differentiate customer experience, constantly empower employees and disseminate prescriptive knowledge across the enterprise.”Cloud Dependency. Cloud computing already has made a big impact on many organizations. 80 percent of enterprises say that if they experienced a cloud outage for only a single day that they would experience a severe impact to their operations.Hybrid Cloud. 451 Research expects that in the near term that typical enterprises will see roughly a split with 55 percent of their computing services on-premise and 45 off-premise. Bailey said that “what is going to be different, is that on-prem will be investments in private cloud. As they move off-prem, what is going to change is hosted private cloud. Customers are going to cloud in their own way. They’re not going to do it recklessly. We also know that hybrid cloud is going to be extremely important. Most customers are thinking in this manner, and this is why the investment in security is so important.”Cloud Spending Categories. By 2015, 451 Research predicts that the top spending categories in cloud computing will be:Enterprise Applications (45 percent)Email (43 percent)Database (43 percent)Business Support Applications (39 percent)Collaborative Tools (25 percent)
