LHSCA Convention underway in Shreveport

first_imgThe Louisiana High school Coaches Association Convention is underway at the Shreveport Convention Center.More than 1,000 coaches from across the state are expected to attend the two-day event, which began Tuesday morning. It features speakers from both the high school and college levels.The keynote speaker is former coach and longtime broadcaster Lou Holtz. Holtz, a member of the College Fooball Hall of Fame, was the head coach at William & Mary, North Carolina State, the New York Jets, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame and South Carolina.He guided Notre Dame to a 12-0 record and the national championship in 1988.Holtz is scheduled to speak during the convention’s general assembly from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in ballrooms A and B. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $20.LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron is scheduled to speak to coaches Wednesday morning. LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and special teams coordinator Steve McMahon are also scheduled to speak.Former Benton head cross country and current assistant coach Frank Trammel is scheduled to speak Wednesday morning along with LSUS head men’s basketball coach Kyle Blankenship.Louisiana Tech head football head coach Skip Holtz, Lou’s son, is one of the afternoon speakers. Tech offensive coordinator Todd Fitch, defensive coordinator Blake Baker and strength and conditioning coach Kurt Hester are also scheduled to speak. Benton head girls basketball coach Mary Ward was scheduled to speak Tuesday afternoon.
